Photonics is a high-tech subject which has evolved during the past two decades as a result of the fusion of optical technology with electronics. The subject has been hailed as the science and technology for the next millennium. Photonics has made its impact in various areas like

Cochin University of Science and Technology is one of the first few Universities /Institutions in the country where due importance has been given to research, development and teaching activities in photonics and related areas.Most of the activities of Photonics are supported by funding agencies like DST, AICTE and UGC.
