Of the total seats for B.Tech. (Self-financing) 50% are free seats, 40% payment and 10% are NRI payment seats. The free seats are reserved only for Keralite students. For B.Tech in Naval Architecture and Ship Building, Instrumentation, Polymer Science Engineering, 10% of the seats are earmarked for students on All India basis (All India quota) and the remaining seats for the Keralites.

payment seats are available for all courses for non keralite and keralite  but for the btech courses like naval arch.,instrumentation and polymer engineering ,non keralite are given 10% seats on the basis of all india quota(AIQ)...
And about lateral entry:
The University offers admission to the third semester of B.Tech. Programmes in B.Tech. in Civil Engg., Computer Science & Engg., Electrical & Electronics Engg., Electronics & Communication Engg., Information Technology, Instrumentation Technology, Mechanical Engg., Polymer Science & Engineering and Safety & Fire Engg. conducted by the Cochin University College of Engineering, Kuttanad; School of Engineering; Department of Instrumentation and Polymer Science & Rubber Technology, Thrikkakara campus through Lateral Entry Scheme. Candidates with any three year Diploma in Engineering / Technology awarded by the Board of Technical Education recognised by the Department of Technical Education, Government of Kerala, with not less than 60% marks, will be considered for admission to the B.Tech. programme through Lateral Entry Scheme.
 The maximum age prescribed is 25 years as on 1st July 2013.
 Admissions will be based on the rank in the admission test(LET), conducted for the purpose. Selected candidates will have to undergo remedial courses as decided by the University.
